The Maine Women’s Hall of Fame was established in 1990 by Patricia Bourgoin, State President of Maine Business and Professional Women, with the assistance of BPW/Maine member Carol Souviney, who had visited the National Women’s Hall of Fame in New York. It is sponsored by the BPW//Maine Futurama Foundation.
For 36 years, it has honored Maine women who have made a significant statewide impact through a lifetime of achievement. The Hall of Fame is dedicated to women leaders and pioneers whose accomplishments have had a lasting influence and have provided enduring value for women.
The annual Induction Ceremony, typically held on the third Saturday of March as part of Women’s History Month, is an outstanding public event where one or two women of achievement are honored.
The University of Maine Augusta has generously provided a site in the Bennett D. Katz Library for the display of photographs and citations for each honoree.
